The State Tretyakov Gallery houses the greatest collection of Russian art in the world (totalling 50 000 paintings) presented to the city of Moscow by the merchant P.M.Tretyakov in 1892. It is the world’s best collection of Russian icons and an outstanding collection of other pre-revolutionary Russian art, particularly in the XIX century Peredvizhniki.

The Pushkin Fine Arts Museum is renowned for its collection of French painting, especially of the Impressionists and Post-impressionists Schools but also had a broad selection of European works from Renaissance onwards.

SERGIEV POSAD TOUR
Sergiev Posad also known as Zagorsk, is a part of the famous Golden Ring route which starts and ends in Moscow passing through several towns of Ancient Rus. It is situated 72 km northeast of Moscow on the Yaroslavskoe highway. Sergiev Posad is a traditional orthodox centre, graced by the magnificent Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, with a blue and gold dome. Built in the fourteenth century, it was for many years, even under communism, the official seat of the Patriarch. There is a wonderful collection of icons on display.
