Duration: 12 hours
For those who had time to complete most of «must see» sight-seeing of ST-Petersburg, country travelling might be an exciting option to see some other parts of Russia.
Novgorod is one of the most ancient Russian towns in the North-West. It is located in between Moscow and ST-Petersburg and dates back to the IXth century.
This is quite a different insight into the country history comparing to the history of ST-Petersburg which was founded in 1703.
Veliky means Great in Russian. It is self-explanatory; throughout many centuries Novgorod used to be a political centre of territories spreading from the Baltic Sea to the Ural Mountains as well as the greatest international trade centre.
Visitors will be shown around the Kremlin, the walls of which defended the ancient city of Novgorod and also served as the city centre. The literal translation for Kremlin means fortress.
You will see unique Cathedrals of ST Sophia (XI century) and ST George (XII century) of the Yuriev Monastery among many others and the Museum of the Wooden Architecture.
